ST. EUSTATIUS–F.D. Roosevelt International Airport acting manager Ric Isarin will be training a successor. Government Commissioner Marcolino Franco said Isarin will be acting airport manager for a period of six months. Franco said two St. Eustatius civil servants who are currently working at the Adviso air traffic control tower will be selected to be airport manager and acting airport manager. Prior to their appointment these two civil servants will undergo a period of training, which will be carried out by the current acting airport manager.
Isarin hails from the Netherlands and has variety of experience in aviation, also in the Dutch Caribbean. He ran Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport in Saba and was the interim manager of Princess Juliana International Airport, which he helped rebuild, after Hurricane Irma devasted St. Maarten and its airport in 2017. In Statia, Isarin worked as a safety expert and assessed the Hurricane Exercise (Hurex) simulation training. “Isarin is someone who has a lot of experience in this region and he will also look into the construction of the new airport building which will start next month,” Franco said.
The authorised supervisors of the soon-to-be-constructed airport building are currently on the island. Construction is set to start this week. The anticipated date of completion is the end of 2020.
